Squarespace website designer for bakers & bakeries

Hi, I’m Kirsty!

The home-baking business owner turned website designer behind Bake This Happen.

As an ex bakery owner, I know exactly the struggles and difficulties that come with running your own baking business. This is why I love taking that knowledge, alongside my love of creating beautiful and functional websites to help bakery owners like you grow your business.

My mission is to help bakers share their beautiful bakes with the world by getting their baking business online.

When I’m not working away building up my business, you can usually find me binge-watching an oldseries (current obsession: rewatching ER, always obsession: The Vampire Diaries), doing yoga (Yoga With Adriene is the best!), travelling the world to watch wrestling (…yup, you read that right!) or teaching myself to roller-skate.

Not sure how to get started with your branding & website?

My story

  • Teenage Fansites

I first started designing websites when I was a teenager. For some reason I really felt strongly about setting up a fan site for my favourite wrestlers, The Hardy Boyz. This was where I first learned about website code and the joys of websites!

  • My Space Years

Remember MySpace? If you don't it's because you are young, but if you're in your late 20's/early 30's you know all about MySpace and 'top 8's Customising My Space pages and blogs when I was at uni studying architecture kept my hand in the web design world.

  • The detour!

After university I worked in architecture until I couldn't bear it any longer. I'd been running my own recipe blog for a few years and had found I could make a mean cupcake. This led me to handing in my notice, moving back home and setting up a homebaking business called Ever So Sweet (named after one of my favourite songs!). Setting up my bakery I designed all my own branding, my website and social media - turns out I enjoyed that more than the baking.

  • Bake This Happen

For me, baking wasn't lucrative and I wanted to buy my own place. So, back to architecture I went but on the side I set up a branding and website design service specifically aimed at baking business, which is when Bake This Happen was born. In 2020 I was able to hand in my notice at the dreaded architecture day job and I now run Bake This Happen alongside a second web design business called Kirsty M Design, which offers Squarespace websites to all independent creative businsses.
