Three must haves for your baking business website (video lesson!)

There are three essentials that I like to see on all bakery websites, whether you are a home baking business or have your own shop. These elements will help your customers to learn exactly what you do and how they can order from you and they will also increase your likelihood of being found in an online search.

Have a clear goal for your homepage

Your website should have one clear goal in mind for any visitor to the site. Of course, your website will be able to do multiple things and share lots of different information, but there will be one action above all others that you want the majority of website visitors to take.

The goal can be placing an order, filling out an enquiry form, signing up to your mailing list or whatever makes the most sense for your business.

Keep this in mind when you are planning out your website and writing the text for your website.

A call to action

Once you’ve outlined that goal, you want to make it really easy for people to take action. This can be a link formatted as a button, a linked image or a sign up form.

You don’t want people to have to go hunting for taking that action, it should be easy and obvious on every page.

A strong brand

You want to be as recognisable as possible when somebody lands on your site. You want someone to land on your page and instantly think, “oh yes - that’s the baker I follow on Instagram”.

This is done by being consistent in how you present your business, from the styling and images to the text and tone that you use on your website and on social media. You can do that by creating a style guide that will help you to use the same colours, fonts and graphic elements across all platforms.

Why let the huge faceless corporations have all the fun (and the money)? Your small business can make a huge difference but it needs a smart website to support it.
