With any new business, getting your name out there and getting inquiries and orders is always the biggest challenge.
There is always so much trial and error to figure out what to do (next) and what marketing strategy works (or doesn’t). While, yes, it does come down to ‘try, test, tweak, repeat’ at the same time, it’s nice to have a helping hand with what has worked for others!Read More
Last week I talked about the importance of branding your baking business, and all the different areas where branding extended to. As I mentioned, if it’s not the most important part of your brand, your logo is certainly what most people will come into contact with first, be it on your Facebook page, website or business card. That’s why it’s important to have a professional looking logo right from the start. Unfortunately though, when you’re new to business you might not have the spare money to spend on hiring a graphic designer, so what do you do? Well, you can do it yourself!
I definitely believe it’s wise to invest in good design for your business by hiring a professional, but I also completely understand it is not always realistic for new business to finance it. However, it is important to have some kind of image or logo right from the start that people can recognise and remember you now. Here’s why DIY-ing a logo is a good start:
Most importantly, it will save you money which you can invest in other areas, like kitchen equiptment
You will look professional right from the start
It can be a great start for when you are able to work with a designer, you won’t be starting from nothing and will have an understanding of what you really want
You can start to build a cohesive look throughout your business
- A logo will help you stand out from your competition and be more memorable to your customers
Deciding on your baking businesses brand and logo can be one of the most painstaking tasks of setting up your business. There are so many options and ideas it can be hard to even know where to start. Not to mention how indecisive you become when making decisions for yourself...or maybe that's just me!
I had known for years that I would name my home baking business Ever So Sweet, but when it came to designing the logo, business cards and website it took forever! If you're stuck in that same quandary then I hope I can inspire you with some of my very favourite bakery logos and branding styles.
There is also a free download which includes some simple bakery themed icons to use in your own logo designs, on your website or to integrate into stationary and business cards - you've got a whisk, wooden spoon, cake on a stand and a cupcake. I've included the transparent background .PNG files as well as Photoshop .PSD files, so you are free to use them wherever you want!
